I started school in 1943. The first thing that happened when we sat down at our desks was distribution of our morning snack, a container of milk and an apple. I also remember the standard "diet plate" from the 50's and 60's which consisted of a hamburger patty (and not from a tortured misfed animal back then), a scoop of cottage cheese and a slice of a tomato. I recently watched the documentary Beyond Impossible on Tubi which I recommend highly. Tubi has the best (free) documentaries on a variety of issues such as nutrition, government corruption, medical criminality. I started a keto diet several years ago after reading Nina's book, had my eyes opened, lost 60 lbs I could never before lose, increased energy and the lipedema I have on my upper legs even decreased. Then covid happened, I got so depressed I started eating potatoes with the reasoning if I'm going to die, let me eat a potato (or several pounds) before I go. Now I'm still struggling to get back.
Thank you Nina for exposing the flaws in our current dietary guidelines. I wish I could believe it was honest mistakes and errors that got us here, but I think we all know it’s Big Food at the root of this. Processed foods injure and kill.
Here's a fun correlation for the diet-heart folks to chew on: that of "existence of agencies that set forth dietary guidelines" with "rates of obesity and chronic metabolic disease in the population."
Thank you for your wonderful research. It's so sad that this government is rolled by lobbyists that represent many pharmaceutical companies that are doing everything they can to keep people on all their drugs. Drugs that are mostly not necessary of people realized heart disease is not caused by cholesterol and that saturated fats are the cleanest, healthiest fats. Cancer would be decreased in many people by avoiding processed foods and chemicals in foods. All natural. Thank goodness I found carnivore before it was too late.
One thing that correlates with increased blood pressure: “Unsettled Science!” As always, mind-blowing, infuriating, and a crackin’ good read. Keep up the good fight, my friend!
Thank you! All it takes is to read the literature to know our guidelines are skewed towards agribusiness. Unfortunately, most people cannot or will not read the literature.
"A town has pledged to turn vegan by shifting to plant-based meals for pupils and patients.
Haywards Heath in West Sussex, with a population of 34,000, is vowing to offer vegan-only options in its schools and hospitals and will also give awards to those making the move.
It is the first in Europe to sign the Plant Based Treaty, joining cities including Buenos Aires, Argentina and Boynton Beach, Florida and across the US."
of course! Industry, especially pharmaceuticals, need sick people. Get them young! I’ve tried unsuccessfully, to convince friends and family to do research and use critical thinking about the Gods advice and rules of what you should and shouldn’t eat. And to not listen to their doctor pushing statins. Humans have such unshakable trust in the experts who harm them.
Given the record of the last two years it is obvious that the FDA-CDC-NIH/NIAID constitute a crime syndicate. To that trio you can add the USDA. There is no way you are going to reform any of this. When freedom of speech was tossed into the garbage can the last two years it precluded any scientific effort. Don't be surprised when the fact checkers wade into the dietary guidelines debate. There will not be any debate. Go against what comes out of the USDA and you will get canceled. All of these Federal agencies need to be abolished. They look out for the industries that control them, not you. If it were easier to make money producing and selling red meat rather than grains, sugar, and now processed insect additives, the USDA would be pushing the carnivore diet. It is no more complicated than that.
Our Outdated, Unscientific Dietary Guidelines
Thank you Nina , you will save many lives but the old guard will fight to the death , the US population death that is.

Congratulations on getting the critique out to the National Academy of Science

Excellent, as always!
There isn't much in our world that's legit and hasn't sold out. Thank you Nina!
Great work. And I love the unsettled science name…so appropriate for these times. Thank you.

Evidently, when it comes to food, ideology comes first, and evidence of health impacts is entirely optional.
Apropos: Burger King Austria is now asking customers if they want hamburgers “Regular? Or with meat?”
This is gonna be a wind ride...

How they lie is how we die. Thank you for your commitment to truthful, factual dietary nutrition.
